A Book Review by

Something's On The Boil, A Discovery Of Prayer And Healing
Author: Josephus L. van den Hoek
Have you ever wondered if prayer for healing really works? Somethings
On The Boil seeks to provide an answer to this intriguing question. Yet, there is much more that the author presents
which can challenge his readers.
For instance, he says, Christian prayers for healing often dramatize the quest
for truth because they either seem to work or they dont, and we are sometimes willing to let the outcome determine our
beliefs. When we focus only on the outcomes of our prayers, we may forget that there are many other factors that need to be
considered such as our state of mind, the state of our heart, anger, fear, resentment, self interest, vanity, motivation,
our state of sin, priorities, and jealousy. We should also realize that our prayers cannot be used as leverage against God.
I,
personally, have enjoyed reading through this book. Its not only spiritual but also practical and humorous. Because
of the authors evident sensitivity to God, founded relationship with Christ, extensive training and unique practical
experiences in health care setting, Ive received a better view on health not only from a medical point of view but also
from a practical christian based perspective. He has, indeed, written his claims on Christian healing principles with careful
insights and balanced perspectives.
If you, in one way or the other have been disappointed by pain and suffering, the
writings of Josephus offers hope and knowledge that can challenge you to look for answers about God and illness. He writes,
our first reaction as pain enters our lives is to get rid of it as fast as possible any way we can, but in doing so
we may miss some of lifes greatest lessons. Except for love, we can say that there is no greater teacher than pain.
Whether the pain is spiritual, emotional, or physical, it often leaves us crying out to God. You may have wondered about Christian
healing and miracles. You may have questions and doubts but are willing to search for answers even knowing that there may
be none.
If, on the other hand, you are someone whos aspiring to serve in the ministry of prayer and healing
or perhaps, whos already involved in healing prayer for others, but, see little fruit or vain results, Josephus provides
a wealth of wisdom and practical, scriptural guidelines that if applied, will not only sharpen the effectiveness of your ministry
but more so, the depths of your foundation in Christ. However, if this subject on prayer and healing sounds
completely strange and new to you, I encourage you to begin exploring on it and start with this book. I believe that this
book will take you into an exciting journey in life that is both rewarding and fulfilling. Josephus proudly presents our Lord,
Jesus Christ, who greatly values every persons soul no matter how broken and damaged it is because of sin. He may not
choose to heal all physical illnesses. Yet, He promises peace and eternal life to those who believe in Him. But if youre
one with a scientific mind who may question the credibility of the authors writings, you may find that after thorough
research and thoughtful consideration on the matter, you may eventually believe and find his claims as life changing. I challenge
you to read his book and learn more.
